We are getting ready to experience a new phase of “Word Salad” extraordinaire, or what might be called Orwellian vocabulary. Terms like — memory hole, newspeak, unperson, and groupthink are ready to make an appearance once again.
It is the political season and that brings an abundance of words, ingenious slogans, and outlandish promises that bear little connection to truth.
"Political language – and with variations this is true of all political parties, from Conservatives to Anarchists – is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind." --- George Orwell
Christians need to be able to discern truth from bloviating and lying. Empty truths and half-truths function as lies and lies are deceptive and from the devil. "...for he is a liar, and the father of lies." (John 8:44)
We are the Church of the living God and are to be the pillar and foundation of truth. (1 Timothy 3:15) The Church is the entity that maintains a culture and sustains a society.
Many would say, the times are evil. When have they not been? But as Saint Augustine said, "Live nobly and you will change the times."
