Now that about says it all! |
We are living in a world today where unfortunately there are very good examples that summarize the demise of our culture. One recent example this week was the Navy's commissioning of the “USNS Harvey Milk.” The ship was named after a Navy veteran and a former city councilman in San Francisco. Harvey Milk was also openly gay. To put an exclamation point on the meaning of the ceremony, Paula Neira, a member of the LGBTQ+ Bar Association, and an openly transgendered person, serving as the clinical program director at the Johns Hopkins Center for transgender health, commissioned the ship by breaking the traditional bottle of champagne upon its bow. Now that about says it all. This is a vivid illustration of the change in culture, a clash of civilizations, and a transformation of worldviews before our very eyes. Unfortunately, this reality should not surprise us. The fact is that the corruption of our culture is quite evident by the measurements of history and this has been the way it has been all along. The early church was born and thrived amongst a corrupt civilization filled with perversion and powered by tyrants. Yet in spite of these realities, what Jesus said was true: "I will build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail." Although unfortunately we must be disgusted, we must not be devastated. Although we are crushed, we must not be confused. We must make no mistake that we are locked in battle with our infernal foe the devil and we must take steps to do as the Apostle Paul instructed the churches of his day. We too must stand firm, pray without ceasing, be filled with the Spirit, walk in the Spirit, and resist the devil. Unfortunately, the times are evil. But as Saint Augustine reminds us; “You say the times are evil? Live nobly and you will change the times.” Now that about says it all! Serving Him with you until He comes for us, Fred |
