Looking Toward Home |
I find myself at that season of life when not only am I getting older, but some of my friends who are older (and younger) are dying. It is a natural state of affairs, but then again it does not feel natural or right. I find myself comforted as I do what Paul commanded in Philippians 4:8: Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is anything worthy of excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things. This is the biblical way of perusing a perspective that is not only true but also helpful. There is also much sage advice revealing a divine perspective in the Old Testament. Perhaps Psalm 1:1-3 and Ecclesiastes 7:2 might be enlightening. I find myself realizing that the dash on the gravestone is the great equalizer. Some die old and some die young. But death seems to be one for one. I find the wonderful words of Don Wyrtzen’s hymn a helpful divine perspective. “Finally Home” “But just think of stepping on shore—And finding it Heaven! Of touching a hand—And finding it God’s! Of breathing new air—And finding it celestial! Of waking up in glory— Finally Home." Serving Him with you until He comes for us, Fred |
