We are living in a time today that we might not understand if only in retrospect. But we do not have the luxury to wait for the present to become the past. Life must be lived in the present with wisdom. We must live today by faith.
The writer of Hebrews made it clear: And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. Hebrews 11:6 Faith is like a toothbrush. Everyone should have one. You should use it often. But you must never use anyone else’s. If you are a Christian, it is because you received the gift of eternal life by faith. It is also true that as a Christian we are to live out each day by faith in what God has revealed to us in His word.
Believing the invisible has always been difficult for me. But many of the truths in the Bible are not empirically testable or discernable. They are not visible to the eye and often do not make sense to the mind. But that is where faith begins and often ends. We are reminded concerning the heroes of the faith in Hebrews 11:1. Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
You see, not seeing, they believed. Let me encourage you to spend some time reading and reflecting on Hebrews Chapter 11 this weekend. It will do your soul some good. I think you will learn that faith is not being sure that everything will work out okay. Faith is being okay, no matter how things work out!
If you live long enough, you begin to understand that we live life looking forward, but we understand life looking backward. As Philip Yancy says: “Faith means believing in advance that which only makes sense in reverse.”
Always remember the insightful and theological truth of the words of Joseph to his brothers after their treachery. “You meant it for evil, but God meant it for good.” (Gen. 50:20 Serving Him with you Until He comes for us. Fred |
