The world is too much with us.

~William Wordsworth~

Most mature Christians know the biblical wisdom and instruction that informs us “Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans 12:2) Most days and in most situations, it is not too difficult to do if I am paying attention. But I need to be paying attention. I need to be focused and be reminded that I live in this world, but am not to be part of it. Focus is the key.

I need to be aware so I can be ware of the seductive nature of the world that encompasses and encircles my life. As Albert Camus reminds me, “In order to understand the world one has to turn away from it on occasion.” But, in a crowded and much-connected world, being alone can require much-concerted effort. Living as we do in our modern world ubiquitous with technology it is often more difficult to get untangled or unplugged from the constant controlling noise of life.

The author of the Book of Hebrews reminds his Jewish Christian brothers and sisters who were amid severe persecution where to focus. He reminds them to - "fix their eyes on Jesus the author and perfecter of our faith who for the joy set before Him endured the cross despising the shame." (Hebrews 12:2)

America was founded by Christians. For the most part, Christianity guided its laws, social mores, civic ethics, and governance. But about year 2,000 Christianity became neutralized and now it is viewed with negativity.

Don't be surprised if the next step is that Christians are viewed with shame. Shame because we are not progressive enough to promote promiscuity and perversion. Shame because we are unwilling to adopt laws that are not only unbiblical but unethical.

The day is coming when being shamed for being a Christian will be a badge of honor.

Serving Him with you

Until He comes for us.
