"In all you do either in eating or drinking, do all to the glory of God." I Corinthians 10:31 |
In case you wondered what your purpose of life is all about - this is it. “Do all to the glory of God.” Glory is one of those words we use quite often but do not know what it exactly means. In both the Old and New Testament it has the idea of heaviness, weight, light, and splendor. We use the term theologically to describe who God is and what man’s purpose is. God is glorious and that being true, the Westminster confession says; “The chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.” Do not overlook that the Bible is theocentric. God is the center, not man. The goal of man is to be in a relationship with God, justification by faith alone in Christ alone Ephesians 2:8-9, and experience fellowship with God by faithfulness to God, I John 1-2, Gospel of John 15:1-11. Regarding the person of God the Bible tells us:
Regarding Man the Bible tells us:
When we obey God, we are glorifying Him.
When we confess our sin, we glorify God. Joshua 7:19 illustrates this regarding Achan's sin, "... give I pray, glory to the Lord God of Israel. Make confession unto Him." We should glorify God in all we do in all of our life, for the Judge is coming. Revelation 14:6-7: And I saw another angel flying in midheaven, having an eternal gospel to preach to those who live on the earth, and to every nation and tribe and tongue and people; and he said with a loud voice, "Fear God, and give Him glory, because the hour of His judgment has come; and worship Him who made the heaven and the earth and sea and springs of waters." How should we then live? --- In the light of His glory and grace. As Ignatius of Loyola said - “The aim of life is not to gain a place in the sun, nor to achieve fame or success, but to lose ourselves in the glory of God. "Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen." 1 Timothy 1:17 Serving Him with you Until He comes for us, Fred Chay |
